Hello and welcome to the official Coombs Wood website.

Coombs Wood has been around in one form or another since the 1920's when it was constructed by the local steel company, Stuarts and Lloyds. Since then the company, along with the sports facility have undergone many changes and the original Coombs Wood foundry, and (sadly) the football pitches opposite, have all succumbed to the inexorable march of progress.

Fortunately, the Sports & Social club is set to survive, beyond the loss of our current home, and will continue to provide teams for cricket, bowls, junior football and even Pool.

It is a lively venue, particularly in summer when the "Coombs Wood experience" can be sampled in all its glory. We feel that the heart of the club is in its membership, and that we will carry this with us to the new venue.

Ground has now been broken on the new site, and all is 'on line', as far as possible, for an opening date just before Easter 2012. Our friend John Garghan is documenting the progress of both the new site and the development of our old ground into a housing estate, and will be posting pictures periodically, both on here and Flickr. The present grounds are due to close on 25th March Next Year.

As you can see, parts of this site are still under construction, but we intend to bring you news about the club, including its proposed move to new premises and results from recent fixtures. We also hope to incorporate a Q & A facility soon.
